Leslie Hamilton is a consultant cardiac surgeon with Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, and is currently the regional director of Professional Affairs (North East) with Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the Assistant Deputy Coroner Durham and Darlington with the Coroners’ Society of England and Wales.

Dr. Hamilton was previously the president of the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland 2006-2008, and served as a member of the executive committee, cardiothoracic Dean, President Elect and President of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. He was also Clinical Director of C/T Surgery, an ethics tutor at Newcastle University and Newcastle Foundation, and a faculty member with Royal College of Surgeons where he taught Legal Aspects of Surgical Practice.

Dr. Leslie Hamilton has served on the Joint Committee for Higher Surgical Training (JCHST) as a cardiothoracic surgery member, and on the Joint Committee for Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE) as chairman of the board, an examiner in cardiothoracic surgery, examiner’s assessor, and intercollegiate specialty examination board member. He has also contributed significantly as a member of the British Medical Association and the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery.

He has published peer reviewed journals on aspects of cardiac surgery (adult and children), and is a peer reviewer for scientific articles submitted to professional journals.

Dr. Hamilton completed his undergraduate degree at Queens University, Belfast, earned his post graduate qualifications from Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, and his medical law degree (LLM) from Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne.
