To assist with the cost of tuition, SGU offers a variety of awards and payment options to new Canadian students. These awards and payment options include:

  • Provincial and federal loans
  • SGU Institutional Loan, at a competitive rate, which helps to cover costs that are not covered by scholarships & loans
  • Rate lock for their entire education at SGU to help ensure that fluctuations in currency rates do not negatively impact the cost of education. Rate lock is based on 3-month average rate as of June 30 of the matriculation year.

Scholarships For Academic Excellence

The Legacy of Excellence was established more than 10 years ago to reward students with high academic achievement. Students entering the four-year MD program who meet the scholarship criteria are eligible for one of the two Legacy of Excellence Scholarships.

Students are notified of their award through the Admissions Office upon acceptance into the University. No application is needed.

CCLOE

The Chancellor’s Circle Legacy Of Excellence Scholarship (CCLOE)

Value: $120,000

Criteria:

  • Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.7, a 3.5 science GPA
  • 506 MCAT score
  • The CCLOE Scholarship cannot be combined with other awards through the University

Legacy Of Excellence Scholarship (LOE)

Value: Up to $70,000

Criteria:

  • Students who demonstrate academic excellence in their undergraduate studies
  • Strong graduate studies and post-bac performances will also be taken into consideration

Canadian Scholarships

Partial-tuition bursary awards are available to eligible non-US citizen/permanent residents who demonstrate financial need and can fund the balance of their education beyond the bursary award.

The International Peace Bursary program is committed to promoting a student body made up of diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds that will contribute to a worldwide medical community.

Partial-tuition bursary awards are granted to international students dedicated to the enhancement of medical care systems. These awards are grants-in-aid and do not have to be repaid.

Canadian Leadership Grants

Value: $500 USD

Criteria:

Awarded directly to pre-med/pre-health clubs and organizations to help promote leadership among aspiring young physicians across Canada through club activities.

Tuition Grants & Scholarships

Value: Partial tuition

Criteria:

  • Complete community-based humanitarian experiences within the last five years
  • Show a desire to help ease the suffering of people who have been impacted around the world

Value: Up to $10,000

Criteria:

  • Must be employed in a healthcare profession in the year leading up to applying to SGU
  • Must be in their related position for at least one year
  • Entering into the four-year MD program

Notification:
Included with admissions decision.

Value: Up to $10,000

Criteria:

  • Must be a child or grandchild of an SGU alum
  • Entering into the four-year MD program or preclinical program

  • Must be a sibling of a St. George’s University School of Medicine student or alum

Frequently Asked Questions

US applicants must submit a Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) score as part of their application.
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) selects about 20 MCAT test dates each year, and they are all between the months of January through Sepetmber to fit in the US medical school application cycle.
