With students and faculty drawn from over 140 countries, we truly are an international institution, with a uniquely global perspective, perfectly poised to help educate students in this rapidly shrinking world.
The University offers a variety of scholarships designed to recognize academic excellence and provide access to the best and brightest students. Approximately 35% of the students enrolled in the MD program receive scholarship support every year.
Student support is at the core of the St. George’s University mission. The University offers a wide range of services that ensure that the University is in partnership with each student during his or her academic journey.
The University has beautifully-designed living spaces for students that provide a wide range of accommodations to best suit the needs of our multi-aged and multicultural student community.
With 65 state-of-the-art facilities, the Grenada campus has the ideal environment for students from around the world to live, learn, and build diverse networks.
“International students should feel free to explore St. George’s University. I am very satisfied with the scope of the education I received. Our courses were taught by prominent professors from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The next two clinical years in the States offer students adequate exposure to clinical medicine as practiced in the United States.”
Students enrolled in our medical education program spend two years studying the basic sciences followed by access to clinical training opportunities at over 70 affiliated hospitals and clinical centers in the United States, Grenada, and United Kingdom.
Entry points are available for students from any education system around the world—including a four-year program for those entering with a traditional baccalaureate degree and five-, six-, and seven-year programs for those entering with international degrees.

The first two years of the four-year MD program, which cover the basic sciences, involve training and instruction using an integrated organ systems-based curriculum. Students learn through traditional lectures and laboratory sessions augmented by small-group sessions and case-based learning exercises. Clinical training is hospital- and clinic-based, and uses bedside teaching augmented by lectures, small groups, and directed study.
The five-year MD program is designed for students with Advanced Level or International Baccalaureate credentials. Students build on an academic background in science with challenging medical education coursework in anatomy, physiology, and other foundational sciences necessary for success in the basic sciences and clinical sciences phases of the MD degree program in SGU’s medical school.
Entry into the six-year MD program is designed for students with the further education examination qualifications and provides foundation sciences necessary for mastering the basic and clinical sciences phases of the program later in the MD curriculum.
The seven–year MD program is designed for students who have secondary school credentials who need to study a complete course in the foundation sciences necessary to be successful in the MD program. With a focus on preclinical sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the seven-year entry point offers this necessary foundation.

St. George’s University is truly an international institution, not only with its diverse student body and faculty but the unique opportunity for students to begin their medical education in Grenada or the United Kingdom. The two paths feature the same curriculum and provide a strong foundation for SGU’s future physicians.
