PSYC 803 Psychology of Caribbean Culture, Communities, and Identity
This is a multi-disciplinary course constructed on the fields of sociology, anthropology, Caribbean Studies, history and psychology. In fact, it establishes the importance of these fields to the development of a culturally appropriate Caribbean psychology or psychologies. In order to indigenize the applied fields of psychology so that their usefulness emerges from, and is grounded in, realities that are uniquely Caribbean, this hybridized disciplinary approach is necessary. While extolling the benefits of Evidence-Based Psychological Practice (EBPP), the course cultivates cultural adaptations that are informed by a wider inter-disciplinary literature about Caribbean past, present and predicted psychocultural patterns.
