What is the CARE Scholarship Program?

The CARE Scholarship Program is a collaborative effort between St. George’s University and its affiliated hospitals, designed to attract and educate the best and brightest students to become doctors committed to serving their communities. The CARE Scholarship is awarded to incoming medical students in recognition of the values that represent the scholarship’s mission of Community, Action, and Recognition of Excellence.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center

  • Cooperative effort between Jersey Shore University Medical Center and St. George’s University.
  • Must be a resident of Monmouth or Ocean Counties or oneself, a parent, or grandparent is employed by Jersey Shore University Medical Center
  • New students admitted directly into the August 4-Year MD program are eligible to apply
  • Students are required to complete their 3rd year core rotations with the hospital network

Hackensack University Medical Center

  • Cooperative effort between Hackensack UMC and St. George’s University.
  • Must be a resident of Bergen County or oneself, a parent, or grandparent is employed by Hackensack University Medical Center
  • New students admitted directly into the January or April 4-Year MD program are eligible to apply

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center

  • Cooperative effort between St. Joseph’s University Medical Center and St. George’s University
  • Must be a resident of Bergen, Passaic or Essex County, New Jersey or oneself, a parent, or grandparent is employed by St. Joseph’s University Medical Center
  • New students admitted directly into the January or April 4-Year MD program are eligible to apply
  • Students are required to complete their 3rd year core rotations within the hospital network

Eligibility & Application Requirements

Jersey Shore University Medical Center

Serve the people of the Tri-State Area by becoming a doctor through the CARE Scholarship Program.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center CARE Scholarships are available to residents of Monmouth County or Ocean County, NJ and Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s employees and immediate family members of employees in good standing who have been accepted to begin their first year of medical education at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada. Scholarships open to incoming SGU students only.

Eligibility Requirements
All eligible students must be able to provide documentation which supports that you meet either the Monmouth or Ocean Counties NJ residency or JSUMC employment (i.e. pay stub, residency affidavit, copy of lease, etc.).

Student’s Commitment & Expectations
In return for accepting the scholarship, students must maintain the regular academic standards set forth by St. George’s University School of Medicine and complete all required third-year core rotations at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. 

Selection Process
Eligible students can apply for this scholarship once they have been accepted into the St. George’s University School of Medicine MD program. 

 

Deadline: May 19th for class commencing in August.

Please note: Applications will not be processed until all requirements of the application have been fulfilled and the applicant has been accepted into the St. George’s University School Doctor of Medicine program. As a condition of acceptance, recipients must complete all required third year core rotations at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Hackensack UMC CARE Scholarships are available to residents of Bergen County, NJ and Hackensack UMC’s employees and immediate family members of employees in good standing who have been accepted to begin their first year of medical education at St. George’s University School of Medicine, Grenada. Scholarships open to incoming students only.

Eligibility Requirements
All eligible students must be able to provide documentation which supports that you meet either the Bergen County, NJ residency or HUMC employment criteria (i.e. pay stub, residency affidavit, copy of lease, etc.).

Student’s Commitment & Expectations
In return for accepting the scholarship, students must maintain the regular academic standards set forth by St. George’s University School of Medicine.

Selection Process
Eligible students can apply for this scholarship once they have been accepted into the St. George’s University School of Medicine MD program. Scholarship applications should be submitted to CARE-Scholarships@sgu.edu including all supporting documentation and as 1 pdf document.

Deadlines: November 20th for class commencing in January and April.
