How to Successfully Complete Your SGU Medical School Application
Once you make the decision that medicine is the right career path for you, your first step in the journey to becoming an MD is applying to medical schools. This is an exciting time, but for many completing medical school applications can seem daunting due to strict deadlines and tough timelines.
With this in mind, St. George’s University’s School of Medicine has designed the application and admissions process to be as straightforward and supportive as possible for prospective students.
What sets SGU’s application process apart?
By offering a simple process, personalized support, and a holistic approach to reviewing applications, SGU’s application process is wholly centered on the student. With a focus on your individual potential, SGU’s med school application allows you to highlight your academic qualifications and emphasize your passion for medicine.
The best part? SGU’s rolling admissions cycles and three different term starts means that you can start medical school when you are ready. This approach lifts the stress of traditional deadlines and stringent application cycles.
“At SGU students have the flexibility to begin medical training in August, January, or April,” says Laura Bruno, dean of student enrollment at SGU. “We operate on a rolling admission cycle, which means our Faculty Student Selection Committee reviews applications and makes admissions decisions throughout the year. While there are no absolute med school application deadlines, we encourage students to submit their application as early as possible to be considered for the next term start.”
SGU med school applications are more straightforward than you might think
Here are some tips to help you cross the finish line when applying to SGU’s School of Medicine.
- You can start your application to SGU School of Medicine by using the online MD program application. You may also apply via the common AMCAS, AACOMAS or TMDSAS application.
- As you go through the application, SGU also offers a step-by-step guide to walk you through the application itself. We encourage you to preview the application.
- In addition, SGU offers a free online application workshop that serves as a valuable resource for applicants. This on-demand webinar session, which you can view on your own time, is designed to provide you with all the information you need to confidently finish and submit your SGU application, including:

Applying to SGU was uncomplicated, according to Hannah Terefe, MD ’23, obstetrics & gynecology resident at Staten Island University Hospital in New York.
“The admissions team was always available to answer my questions and made the process as seamless as possible. I was even able to use my AMCAS application and upload it directly to SGU’s portal. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience,” Dr. Terefe says.
Submit your application when ready and send missing documents later
SGU understands that gathering and submitting your supporting documents for your medical school application can take time. We want to make this process as smooth as possible for you. That’s why we offer flexibility throughout the application process to submit your additional documents. For example:
- MCAT scores: If you have an upcoming exam, feel free to enter your exam date in place of your score. You can submit your MCAT scores once your results are available.
- Transcripts: We allow you to initially apply using your unofficial transcript. You can upload the official one(s) at a later stage.
- Letters of Recommendation: If your recommenders need more time, they can submit their letters after you’ve submitted your application.
“My admission process was very straightforward, which I really appreciated. Everything was well explained in the emails from the admissions team, and I was able to get answers very easily to all my questions,” says Elissa Bailey, MD ’22, an emergency medicine resident at MetroHealth in Cleveland, OH.
SGU admissions partners with you
The SGU admissions team is committed to guiding you every step of the way, offering personalized support tailored to your needs. From completing your online application to preparing for your admissions interview, the entire process is designed to be efficient and accessible.

My admissions officer took the time to reach out to me personally, and the admissions team made themselves available for any questions I had,” says Sara Conway, MD ’24, a first-year pathology resident at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.
