Dr. Racquel Oakley is an instructor in the Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. She obtained her D.V.M. at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), University of the West Indies, St. Augustine in 2021 then took on the role of Clinical Teaching Assistant at the SVM. Throughout her time there, she had the opportunity to practice as a 1st line veterinarian, do surgeries as well as conduct skills sessions and coordinate final year students on rotations. She worked primarily as an ambulatory clinician, doing emergency calls and farm visits. Her research interests include Food Animal Nutrition, Alternative and Holistic Medicine and Periparturient diseases in ruminants.
Personal Background & Interests
When she’s not busy with patients, she can be found catching up on her favourite anime such as Dandadan, AoT, Bleach or simply just enjoying the beach. She’s from the beautiful island of Jamaica but loves to learn and enjoy other cultures and most importantly, try their dishes. Her favourite thing is an avocado so at some point you will see here wearing fun avocado socks or head band.
