Peter Slinger

Dr. Peter Slinger is an Associate Professor, and Coordinator of the School of Veterinary Medicine’s Learning Strategy Program located in the Department of Educational Services. Dr. Slinger joined SGU in 1998. During his years at St. George’s, Dr. Slinger has held several academic leadership positions, including Director of the SGU Pre-Medical Program and Supervisor of the DES Supplemental Learning (SL) Program. Both programs were awarded the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Outstanding Institutional Advising Program Certificate of Merit Award. He has taught in all four SGU schools. Most recently in the School of Veterinary Medicine’s Professionalism curriculum and the School of Graduate Studies’ Master of Education program. His research interests include collaborative learning communities, growth mindset, active learning, and information processing. Dr. Slinger is an advocate of the Crucial Conversations approach for mastering dialog.
Dr. Slinger earned his PhD in Education from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also obtained an MA in International Communication and a BSc from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Prior to SGU, Dr. Slinger was a faculty member and academic advisor in the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He was also an Assistant Residence Director in the University of Florida, Housing and Residence Life Program. An avid agriculturalist, Dr. Slinger comes from a multi-generation family of Grenadian farmers.
