Joanne Buckland, EdD, MA, joined St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine as the Director of Student Achievement in July 2024. Dr. Buckland started at SGU in 2010 as a learning strategist in the Department of Educational Services. After 14 years of learning design, development and delivery, she has moved to SVM to oversee the design and delivery of SVM’s NAVLE preparation program and provide support to 4th year students. Prior to SGU, Dr. Buckland spent 4 years at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Canada as a tutor and learning strategist.

She has a wealth of experience in individual appointments and workshops with groups up to 800 on topics that range from study skills to time management to multiple-choice test taking. Dr. Buckland also designed, initiated the original development, and continues to help with the evolution of the online strategic learning tool, MyCoach, on the SGU Portal.

Dr. Buckland obtained her Doctor of Education in Distance Education from Athabasca University in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada. She did her MA in Education with a Community College Concentration from Central Michigan University through a satellite program at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. She has a 3-year diploma in Graphic Design also from Georgian College.
