Dr. Mitchell was appointed as Assistant Dean of Students in 2021 and serves as a point of contact and advisor to students for academic and non-academic matters. He has held key course leadership roles, including course director of the Basic Principles of Medicine III course and content manager for the Public Health Assessment Tools discipline in the SOM MD Program.
Currently, he is co-chair and an associate professor within the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, which serves as host for a World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Environmental and Occupational Health. Dr. Mitchell’s research and service projects focus on the association between environmental exposures and adverse health outcomes. His main teaching responsibilities include topics on Environmental and Occupational Health and Biostatistics for students in the Master of Public Health and the SOM MD program.
