Ed Johnson, August 2005

Ed Johnson, MD, Dr. Johnson is a Board Certified Internist and Infectious Disease specialist who has been affiliated with St. George’s University since 1981 when he became a Director of Medical Education for the University. For the last nine years, he has served as Dean of Kingstown Medical College in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and he has aided in the development of the Department of Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and Advanced Clinical Skills. He continues to teach Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, and other courses at SGU in Grenada and St. Vincent. Dr. Johnson has played an active role in developing continuing medical education programs for regional physicians in the Windward Islands.

After founding the Peter Ho Memorial HIV Clinic in 1982, Dr. Johnson’s interests were devoted to the treatment and prevention of Opportunistic Infections in Immune Compromised patients, and training infectious disease fellows at St. George’s affiliate institution, St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. While at St. Michael’s he was Program Director of Infectious Diseases and Chairman of the Infectious Disease Section at Seton Hall University and the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey. He continues to consult in Infectious Diseases at the Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, New Jersey, a major affiliate of St. Barnabas Medical Center, one of our Clinical Training Centers. His most recent work in clinical medicine in New Jersey was to establish the Clara Maass Traveler’s Resource, a non-profit center which provides immunizations, prophylaxis and counseling for travelers, including the immune compromised.

Dr. Johnson has had a lifelong interest in issues of professionalism and humanism in patient care.
